VACATIONLAND

The "Vacationland" paintings are about helplessness and isolation. I had been trying to come to terms with feelings of loss; the death of family members and friends, the end of my youth, and the collapsing natural environment. The figures, often naked, are vulnerable. I hope to make the viewer feel discordance and a sense of foreboding. 

Growing up middle class in the 1960’s and 70’s in suburban Philadelphia sheltered from political and economic upheavals just a few miles away, we lived in a bubble of denial. It was all just  pretty packaging on a can of worms. I have begun to think about the mythology of the American Dream within the microcosm of people’s lives, the figures amalgams of gender, race and age.
